Knowing your history
This delicious recipe dates back to the early sugar mills in the 16th and 17th centuries, popularized by bandeirantes and tropeiros (trailblazers). It was given this name because it was prepared by the troop cooks, the men who transported goods during the colonial period. On their journeys, they ate mainly beans, pork, farofa (manioc flour), and kale. This is how the feijão-tropeiro (a type of tropeiro dish) we know today came about.
Since then, feijão-tropeiro has been one of the most traditional dishes in Brazilian cuisine, more specifically in Minas Gerais cuisine.
