Choosing to cycle out of the house has never been so enjoyable. A city in northern Italy has encouraged residents to choose bicycles instead of cars for transportation. Another option for residents, who also benefit, is to use public transportation.

The initiative to give gifts to the population, so that they can choose means of transportation other than their cars, was to raise awareness about the pollution caused by the emission of gases that result in the greenhouse effect, since global warming increases with each passing day.

With this in mind, the city of Bologna created an effective method that has been a hit with residents who have preferred to leave their cars at home and use their bicycles or public transport.

When residents use one of the two transportation options, they receive free gifts, including beer and ice cream. Oh, and for those who enjoy watching a good movie, there are also movie tickets and other gifts. This makes cycling easy and enjoyable!

Marco Amadori, the urban planner who created the idea, his initial goal was to make ecologically sustainable transport more attractive to the population, raising awareness among the people and benefiting the planet.

"For the first time, we were able to involve everyone. Everyone has the opportunity to exchange a car trip for a bike or bus trip and receive a reward.", revealed Amadori.

To qualify for the freebies, residents simply download an app and log each trip they make using their bike or public transportation. With each trip, residents accumulate points that are converted into prizes. Then, they simply choose their options and redeem them at partner establishments.

For those who like to cheat, the app has a GPS system that tracks residents' speed and route, which then displays the information and compares it with the data selected in the app. Residents also receive rewards per trip, not per distance, with each person being able to register four trips at a time.

Finally, when you finish the route, the app displays a demonstration that shows the amount of CO2 (carbon dioxide) – one of the gases that causes global warming – that was no longer emitted into the air, saving the planet.
