Sponge Cake Dough

Ingredients

  • 4 eggs
  • 2 cups of wheat flour
  • 2 cups of sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 cup of boiling water

Preparation Method

  1. With this dough you can make a light and delicious cake.
  2. Separate 4 egg whites and 4 egg yolks.
  3. Beat the egg whites until stiff and set aside.
  4. In the largest bowl of the mixer, place the 4 egg yolks with 1 cup of boiling water and beat until very frothy.
  5. Always beating and little by little, first add 2 cups of sugar.
  6. After a few minutes, gradually add 2 cups of wheat flour and continue beating until smooth (approximately 10 minutes).
  7. Turn off the mixer, add the baking powder and the beaten egg whites and, using a wooden spoon, mix gently in circular motions from bottom to top.
  8. Spread margarine on the pan and sprinkle with wheat flour.
  9. Pour the batter into the pan and tap the pan with the batter a few times on a hard surface to remove any air bubbles that could expand and cause the cake to break when unmolding.
  10. Place in the oven, which should be at a high temperature, and leave to bake at this temperature for 10 minutes.
  11. After 10 minutes, lower the temperature to medium and leave for approximately another 20 minutes.
  12. To check if the cake is cooked, insert a toothpick into the middle of the cake. If it comes out moist, it needs more baking.
  13. When it comes out dry, turn off the oven and remove the cake, being careful not to burn your hands.
  14. Wait for it to cool before unmolding.
  15. Use as a base for Swiss rolls, filled cakes, birthday cakes or trifles.
  16. And you can help yourself!
