Curiosities

Gray or pink sneakers? The test is back and shows what your answer says about your brain function and personality.

The test was all the rage in 2017 but now it's back with a vengeance on social media.

You've probably received one of these in a private message or in a WhatsApp group, where a photo of a pair of sneakers is accompanied by the question: "What color are the sneakers?" At first glance, it might seem like a simple question, but the different responses to the same image are driving the internet crazy. Users spend hours reading the comments when this quiz appears on social media.

This topic first surfaced in 2017, but it came back with a vengeance this week on Twitter and spread rapidly across other web platforms. Many people look at the photo of the sneakers and say with absolute certainty that they are gray and green, while others see them as pink and white.

What many didn't realize is that the answers are directly linked to how your brain works. According to the creators, researchers, and physician Rafael Monteiro, those who see the sneakers as green have a predominant left brain. Those who see the shoes as pink have a more active right brain, according to them, because the test is scientifically based.

In controversy, for the neurologist, people's different responses to the test are linked to an optical illusion, much more than to the side of the brain that would be more developed.

Check out the image below for the characteristics that, according to scholars, are more closely linked to the right and left sides of the brain:

So, according to what the neurologist says, you may be able to see the true color after figuring out which tone actually belongs to the image. "We see colors when the light from an object is captured by the retina, which then travels to the visual cortex, the part of the brain that takes the information the eye sees and transforms it into shapes and colors. In other words, it's simply a matter of color perception." he concludes.

For those curious to know the true answer to the test: the sneakers are gray and teal. The true color was verified using PicsArt, an Apple app, so it's worth checking out.
